Abstract

The fifth volume in the series consists of Jens Christian Spidberg's short monograph Historische Demonstration und Anmerckung über die Eigenschafften und Ursachen des so genandten Nord-Lichts ('Historical Demonstration of, and Commentary on, the Properties and Causes of the so-called Northern Light'), first published by Johann Bernhard Heinzelmann in Halle in 1724. Spidberg's text was reissued, along with an introductory article by Johann Kanold, in Bautzen in 1728. Kanold's article is included as an appendix here. Another appendix is a 'letter to the editor' of the Copenhagen weekly, Nye Tidender om lærde og curieuse Sager, which Spidberg wrote in 1738. The present volume is introduced by a biographical essay and summary of contents by Per Pippin Aspaas from UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
