In connection with new planned retail development at Leknessletta in Vestvågøy, Nordland County Council recorded a cooking-pit site in 2019. In 2023, the Arctic University Museum of Norway carried out an excavation of the site. Several cooking pits, hearths, postholes and a three-aisled post-built hose were identified. Cooking-pit activity appears to begin in the Late Pre-Roman Iron Age. Several similar post-holes were examined where one is dated to the Early Roman Iron Age. A post-built house consisting of three pairs of posts, a hearth and a cooking-pit dated to the Merovingian period is interpreted as a dwelling or possible workshop.
