Human inventiveness
The micro-infrastructure for peace in the Arctic

This video is an exploration of how to communicate a mood, feeling, bodily sensations, insights and memories from my visit to the town of Ikaluktutiak (Cambridge Bay) in 2025. I have previously practiced videoart and have been inspired by the work of Bill Viola and others, but my expression has changed over time. I have moved from the more theatrical work I produced early in my career, towards an austere form that nonetheless tries not to be read as “pure testimony”. The video is about ways of living, something difficult to transmit through an article or a chronicle. It has been created by means of a DSLR camera and a DJI drone. The slow paced format and minimal editing has been chosen as a counter-response to “high-pace high-energy“ 21st century video-making. This video has been used as a conversation piece, I showed it to talk about the place to others, in small group circles. I argue in the chronicle that complements this video that peace in the Arctic is better achieved through focusing on human inventiveness, not through grand bargains. Perhaps that is what videoart also reflects at its core.
