Beskrivelse: Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (MASC) er et spørreskjema som brukes for å kartlegge symptomer på angst hos barn og unge. I den amerikanske manualen er det normer for barn og unge i alderen 8–17 år. MASC ble utviklet av John March og kolleger i 1997 og Multi-Health Systems eier rettighetene til testen. Skjemaet har 39 ledd fordelt på fire delskalaer. I sin opprinnelige form ble skjemaet fylt ut av barnet selv. Nylig har det også kommet en foreldreversjon.
Litteratursøk: Det systematiske litteratursøket resulterte i 12 norske og 30 svenske eller danske treff. Fem norske og to svenske publikasjoner ble inkludert. Tre av de norske publikasjonene kom fra samme studie. De norske studiene var alle basert på deltagere i alderen 7–13 år, fra kliniske utvalg.
Psykometri: Norske normer finnes ikke, men amerikanske normer er tilgjengelige. For tenåringer finnes det også svenske normer. I en norsk studie fremkom det godt samsvar mellom relevante delskalaer og diagnoser satt av kliniker, noe som understøtter begrepsvaliditeten til instrumentet. Totalskåren skilte mellom barn med og uten en angstdiagnose og underskalaene for sosial angst og separasjonsangst/panikk var assosiert med bekreftet diagnose for sosial angstlidelse og separasjonsangstlidelse. Skalaene viste god til utmerket indre konsistens. Grad av samsvar mellom foreldre og barn var lav.
Konklusjon: Den norske oversettelsen av MASC har gode psykometriske egenskaper i tråd med det som er vist i internasjonale studier.
