Author Guidelines

The author’s guidelines must be followed. The author must correct the text themselves if the text does not comply with the Author Guidelines.

Information for Authors

SDÁ follows ICMJE’s definition for authors and co-authors.

Texts must be submitted in Word format, not as a PDF file. Starting in 2023, all texts submitted to the journal undergo plagiarism checks using the tool iThenticate.

Articles, book reviews, jubilee texts, and trial lectures submitted to the journal must be written in sámi language. SDÁ publishes in northern, lule, and southern sámi languages. Texts submitted to the journal must not have been previously published or translated into sámi from another language.

Authors must follow the guidelines provided on the journal’s website. Submitted texts should be as linguistically, stylistically, and technically finished as possible. Authors are responsible for resolving rights related to tables, images, and other materials before submitting their texts to the journal.

SDÁ does not pay authors. Texts are published electronically on the journal’s website.

Reference style

The reference style is called Aigecala. On this page you will find an illustration of the reference style.

Text Length

The length of the text is measured by the number of characters, including spaces:

  • Research articles: 30,000–50,000 characters
  • Book reviews: 10,000–15,000 character
  • Doctoral dissertations: 15,000–20,000 characters
  • Professional memory words: 10,000–15,000 characters

Reviewing Process

Scientific articles submitted to the journal are evaluated in two stages. Once the editor has approved the submitted article, the text is forwarded to the editorial team for review. The editorial team reads the article and provides their assessment, which is then shared with the author. The author is given a deadline to address any suggested changes.

The revised article is then resubmitted to the journal for a second review, during which the reviewer receives the manuscript anonymously. The author and the reviewer remain unaware of each other's identities. This process is known as a double-blind review.

The author is expected to consider the external reviewer's comments before the article is approved and published. Finally, the article undergoes language editing, which is carried out in collaboration with a language expert.

Submitted texts undergo a plagiarism check using the iThenticate tool.

In 2015, SDÁ became part of SIKOR, the Sámi International CORpus, a collection of Sámi-language texts compiled by UiT and the Sámi Parliament. Published articles are indexed in SIKOR.
