Abstract

European Adolescent Assessment Dialogue (EuroADAD) is a structured interview for assessing problems and treatment needs in adolescents with substance use problems aged 12 to 24 years. The Norwegian translation by Astrid Brandsberg-Dahl, Grethe Lauritzen, Heid Nøkleby and David Öberg was published in 2007. Alfred S. Friedman, Arlene Terras and David Öberg published the original version in 2002. The responses in each of the seven life areas Physical, School and work, Social, Family, Psychology, Criminality, Alcohol and Drugs form the basis of the respondent’s rating of the extent of the problem and need for help, the interviewer’s severity rating and a composite score. Administration time is approximately one hour, and interviewers are required to have at least three years of relevant higher education as well as a three-day training course in the use of EuroADAD. Our systematic literature search failed to identify any evidence for the psychometric properties of any of the Scandinavian versions of the EuroADAD. The psychometric properties of the Norwegian version of the EuroADAD remain unknown. Until the results of well-designed psychometric studies of EuroADAD become available, the interview should be used with caution in clinical settings.
