Hvor mange tyskere var det i Norge under krigen? Denne rapporten søker å besvare dette spørsmålet ved å undersøke et stort kildemateriale fra den tyske overkommandoen i Norge. Tysk personell er inndelt i fire store grupper; hær, marine, luftforsvar og samlegruppene Sonstige (annet personell). I tillegg er det en stor gruppe med krigsfanger. Alle disse gruppene var omfattet av tysk forpleiningsansvar. Derfor finnes det i kildene oversikter over alt personell som okkupasjonsmakten brakte til landet. Tallene viser hovedtrekkene i utviklingen av antallet tysk personell fra april 1940 til mai 1945 for månedsvis. I tillegg er det gjort beregninger for å fordele totalantallet på de ulike personellgruppene. Det er første gangen en slik samlet fremstilling er laget.
