Innledning: Depresjonsmestring for ungdom (DU) er et tiltak for ungdom i alderen 14–20 år med lette eller moderate depresjonssymptomer. Hovedmålene for tiltaket er å redusere symptomer, forebygge utvikling av depresjon eller å forebygge tilbakefall. DU er utviklet av Trygve Arne Børve. Tiltaket implementeres i Norge gjennom Fagakademiet og Rådet for psykisk helse.

Beskrivelse av tiltaket: DU er et terapeutisk kurs som følger en fastsatt struktur beskrevet i en manual. Gjennom kurset skal deltakerne skal få en forståelse for sammenhengen mellom tankestil og nedstemthet. De skal få kunnskap og ferdigheter til å redusere risikoen for å utvikle depresjon og å mestre nedstemthet best mulig. Hovedmålene for tiltaket er å redusere symptomer på lett/moderat depresjon, forebygge utvikling av depresjon og å forebygge tilbakefall av depresjon.

Evaluering av tiltaket: Effektene av DU er undersøkt i en pre-poststudie. Resultatene viser en stor nedgang i symptomer på depresjon hos kursdeltakerne i løpet av intervensjonstiden. Det dokumenteres ytterligere en liten nedgang i depresjon seks måneder etter intervensjonen. Resultatene er sammenlignet med andre studier med kontrollgruppe. Sammenlikningen indikerer at DU har like store effekter som andre liknende tiltak som er mer omfattende. Et stort frafall og mangel på kontrollgruppe gjør resultatene noe usikre.

Ungsinns klassifisering: DU har positive resultater fra en pre-post studie, der resultatene også er sammenlignet med andre studier (referansestudie). Tiltaket klassifiseres som funksjonelt virksomt på evidensnivå 3, dokumentasjonsgrad **.
