En kvalitativ studie av studenters egenopplevde kompetanseutvikling gjennom videreutdanning
A qualitative study of students’ self-assessed competence development through further specialization as a nurse

Helsetjenesten blir stadig mer spesialisert og kompleks. Studier indikerer at sykepleiere med videreutdanning bidrar til mer effektive tjenester med høy kvalitet. Få studier har fokusert på kompetansebyggingsprosessen, eller på studenters tanker om den rollen de skal fylle. Hensikten med studien var å utforske akutt-, anestesi-, intensiv- og operasjonssykepleiestudenters (AAIO) opplevelse av egen kompetanseutvikling, og hvorvidt opplevd kompetanse var tilstrekkelig for å ivareta rollen som spesialsykepleier. Studien hadde et kvalitativt design med bruk av semi-strukturerte dybdeintervjuer. Studentene opplevde å skulle fylle en ny og mer utfordrende rolle. Kompetansebygging ble opplevd som krevende, og som en modningsprosess. Alle deltagerne opplevde at de fremdeles hadde mye å lære. De opplevde å ha påbegynt en vei mot kunnskapsbasert praksis, men at dette var noe som fremdeles måtte videreutvikles. Videreutdanning tilfører basiskompetanse for å fylle rollen som spesialsykepleier. Gjennomføring av videreutdanningen er krevende, og det tar tid før kunnskap og ferdigheter er en integrert del av sykepleieres profesjonelle praksis.
