"Nordic Aspirations": The Scottish discourse on the Nordic region

Sammendrag

Norden har, siden tidlig 2000-årene, fått en sentral rolle i skotsk politikk og skotsk nasjonalisme. Med økt politisk makt til Skottland i disse årene, har spørsmålet om uavhengighet fått stadig mer rotfeste i det skotske samfunnet og støtte i den skotske befolkningen. I sammenheng med denne politiske utviklingen, har Norden blitt presentert av sentrale politiske aktører slik som den skotske regjeringen og SNP, som et alternativ og en rollemodell for Skottland. Denne artikkelen undersøker denne diskursen om Norden i dagens Skottland. Dette gjøres ved å undersøke den historiske utviklingen av denne diskursen, samt hvordan den bygger på allerede eksisterende verdier og ideer i skotsk nasjonalisme der egalitarisme er ansett som en hovedverdi. På bakgrunn av denne unike sammenfiltringen, er Norden både virkelighet og ide, og i det ligger konseptets styrke og motstandsdyktighet i Skottland.
