Med denne artikel argumenteres for, at et øget fokus på kronotopers iboende konceptuelle metaforer i kanonlitteratur kan bidrage til at bevidstgøre elever om den historiske og litterære udvikling i tid og rum. Litteraturhistorie vil, på den baggrund, i højere grad bidrage til en udvidet literacy-tilegnelse set i relation til den mere snævre lineære kronologiske periodisering, forfatter-portræt og tekstlæsning, der typisk kendetegner læsning af kanonlitteratur. Med artiklen argumenteres også for, at et øget fokus på to- og flersprogede elevers fortolkning af de konceptuelle metaforer kan bidrage til den historiske og litterære udvikling.
